Paper details:

Just how much does the press set agendas for public discourse? What are some new issues in Journalism?

This one is about the ethical issues that arise with new media. Journalism is, by definition, mass communication. How does the nature and framework of the newer forms of mass media (such as Facebook/twitter) impact our news? How are the features of these media impacting the profession of journalism as well as our consumption of their work outputs as journalists? How does the increased adoption of such media impact culture, the way we interpret local, national, and global issues and events?

1. DO NOT EXCEED ONE PAGE in length for this assignment.
2. FISRT, READ the following:

*chapter on news gathering and reporting.
*the article entitled “staying neutral.”

3. REFLECT specifically on the above readings and create a WRITTEN RESPONSE that ties together what you learned from reading and addresses some of the issues posed. Recommended length for this part is approximately 5-6 sentences.

4. NEXT, keep a brief “journal” for a few days on the following:
* How do you receive your news?
* What sources, news products/organizations, networks (in broadest sense of term) impact your outlook, interpretation of events, and world view?

5. Media Probe 4 assignment submission must contain the following:

* A well-thought out (synthesized) response to #3 above (5-6 sentences). Focus on explaining the issue accurately and responding to what is addressed in the reading.

* Response to #4 above (a few sentences).

* Having considered the readings together with your own news habits, now reflect on your resulting perspective. Do not simply summarize the facts given, but rather discuss the facts given in terms of what they make you think.

* Use of APA citations including in-text parenthetical citations and a complete works-cited list.
